HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE!

Earthrise: The picture of our planet that changed the world

50 years ago NASA astronauts took a picture that changed the world. It was a full color photo of planet Earth as seen from space. This image inspired many to think differently about our home.

In this episode we'll tell the tale of that epic snapshot. Plus we'll explain how Earth and our solar system formed in the first place. We'll talk to astrophysicist Lindy Elkins-Tanton about whether there are other planets like Earth in the universe. Plus we have an all new Mystery Sound and a Moment of Um that answers the question “Why do dreams seem longer than they are?”

So say cheese and enjoy! This episode is sponsored by Pre (eatpre.com and offer code BRAINSON). You can support Brains On at brainson.org/donate

Pixicato and Sprite alright have been turned into a couple of paper puzzle pieces. Can they join together and figure out how to reverse the curse? Or will Wowzer get them?

The Gnome and the Seed: A Growing Up Story for Kids

Happy Holidays, friends! This is not a holiday themed story, but it’s a very sweet one about growing up and learning to set aside the search for perfection in life. ENJOY!

I will be taking a break to write more stories for you. In the meantime, if you have a moment, please share the show with friends! They will be so happy to have easier bedtimes, peaceful car rides, and generally happier tiny people. I will be ever so grateful, too.

If your tiny person wants to share a story they’ve written, please send photos or recordings of it to rhea@littlestoriestinypeople.com. I LOVE to see their artwork, stories, and anything else they’d like to share.

BIG THANKS to the listeners who provided sound effects used in the story: RILEY and NORA

You can send me your very own sound effect! Just use the voice memo app on your phone, record your tiny people making a (recognizable) sound, and email it to rhea@littlestoriestinypeople.com! They might just hear their sound in a future story.

Thank you to KENDI for helping me with the reminder at the beginning of this episode!!!

Your child can help me too! Here are the lines:

Remember, there are no pictures. You’ll have to imagine the pictures in your mind. You can imagine them however you want. OK, here we go!

Also, my book is available NOW. Find it here: http://mybook.to/littlefoxcantwait Thank you so much to those who have supported my work by getting the book!

81: What Is It Like To Be An Adult?

What is it like to be an adult? It’s a big question from a young mind! We invited adults who listen to share their perspectives and Nora McInerny, host of the podcast Terrible, Thanks for Asking, helps guide us through that and a few other questions about the strange world of adults: Why can adults do things that kids can’t do? Why don’t adults play pretend like they used to when they were kids? What happens when you don’t listen to your boss? And why do people cry when they’re happy?

9: The Animal Road Trip Adventure

Join us for a journey through Tumble’s favorite animal episodes! Swim with whale sharks in Mexico, climb mountains with pikas, travel back in time to discover our earliest primate relatives, and more. Download two hours of stories of animal science discovery, and you’ll be all set to turn your road trip into an animal adventure.

For a collection of episodes about astronomy, check out The Road Trip To Outer Space.

We’ll be back January 11 with brand new episodes. Have a great holiday!

Soil: Can you dig it?

We’re ready to get our hands dirty as we explore the stuff beneath our feet. Clay, sand, mud — soil is everywhere. And it’s alive! We’ll find out how it helps plants grow and learn about all the little organisms that are invaluable in the process (hint: it involves something called the “poop loop”). Plus: A brand new Moment of Um answers the question: “What’s inside of a tooth?” Today’s episode is sponsored by the CBC podcast Tai Asks Why and Quip (getquip.com/brainson).
